Welcome to the ScotPHO Online Profiles Tool (OPT), designed to allow users to view the various different profiles produced by the ScotPHO collaboration. To access, select the required profile and geography from the dropdown lists below.

All indicators in the tool are displayed in spine charts, comparing the chosen geographical area with the Scottish average or with another area. This design allows users to gain a useful overview of an area at a glance, even at small geographies. The spine charts highlight both strengths and areas for development. Further functionality includes:
  • Click on an indicator in the spine charts to show a ranked bar chart for that indicator, allowing comparison between all areas within the geography level selected (such as NHS Boards or local authorities).
  • Click on any one of the rank chart bars to yield a trend chart, showing how the value of the indicator has changed over time for that area. The trend chart also shows how the indicator has changed over time for the Scotland average (this can be changed to compare against any other area).
  • There are several features to aid interpretation of differences; for example colour-coding in the spine charts to indicate statistical significance and confidence intervals in rank charts and time trend graphs.
Notes:
  • The time periods can vary between indicators.
  • Due to differences in data availability, data reported in the profiles may not be consistent with that of published reports
All of the data on the profiles is available to download, so can be used to create your own reports and charts.

If you have any trouble accessing any information on this site then please contact us at: ScotPHO@nhs.net and we will be happy to help.

Profiles update process

Some indicators are part of more than one profile, therefore from autumn 2015 the tool is being updated on an indicator-by-indicator basis rather than on a profile-by-profile basis. The schedule of indicator update is dependent on the expected data availability and as such can be a subject of change.

The list of available indicators, date of last update and expected next update are available in this timetable.

Due to differences in data availability, data reported in the profiles may not be consistent with that of published reports
